League of Conservation Voters

The League of Conservation Voters has a number of entry-level internships for college students that will be opening up this Summer and next Fall.

The first internship is our Summer Environmental Advocacy Field Internship, beginning May 15th or later, if students are taking a May Term. This can be either a one or two month position and would take place at one of our four field offices. These will be located in Oregon, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Florida. These internships offer training in political canvassing as well as presentations and discussions on how LCV runs a national political campaign. The summer internships are unpaid, though our fall internships will be paid. Fall Environmental Advocacy Field Internships will take place in the same four states and will run until the election in early November.

These positions are for our 2004 campaign, in which we will be focusing primarily on the Presidential elections. LCV rates the environmental record of politicians in office and then works to make sure environmentally friendly politicians are reelected while anti-environmental politicians are not. Recently, President Bush has earned the worst environmental record of any American President since we were founded and so our campaign will be most focused on this race.

We are looking for students with an interest in the environment or American politics. These are all entry-level positions, so we do not necessarily expect a student to have direct work experience. There are many positions available right now, as we have just begun to advertise it. They will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, so there is no concrete deadline.

If students are interested in signing up or would simply like more information, they can email me at steve_hansen@lcv.org or call me at (202)-454-4572 during regular business hours. Also, for students interested in what we do but unable to work this summer or fall, we are offering a shorter training and work opportunity in Florida during Spring Break. These would not be internships but instead volunteer opportunities.
